What We Believe

Our Statement of Faith

Christians throughout the years have held a wide variety of beliefs, and have often differed in their personal theology. As a Church, Great Commission Church of God strives to center its beliefs on Jesus Christ and His teachings. We focus our teaching on the principles of scripture. Where the scriptures speak, we agree; When they are silent; we agree. It is up to all of us to allow the Holy Spirit to judge and convict. Our desire is to live lives fully devoted to Jesus Christ and to be the light of hope within our community. We believe that becoming fully devoted to Christ includes active participation in the church and the things of God.

Who is God?

God is our Creator and Sustainer of the Universe. He exists in 3 persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. These 3 are co-equal and are one.

Who is Jesus Christ?

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary by miraculous conception, lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days demonstrating His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven's glory where He is the only Mediator between God and people, and will return again for the Church.

What About Salvation?

Salvation is a gift from God to all people, by faith, through Christ. Men and women can never make up for their sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgiveness can a person be saved from sin's penalty.

Who Is the Holy Spirit?

The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding spiritual truths, and guides us every day into all righteousness. He helps us to do what is right! It is our belief that fully devoted Christians seek to live under His control daily

What About the Bible?

The Bible, both the Old and New Testaments, is God's inspired word to all. It was written by human authors, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The Scriptures are inspired by God, and are infallible and inerrant in the original manuscripts. The Bible has final authority on all matters of faith and practice, and there are no other writings similarly inspired by God.

What About Christian Unity?

There is one Lord, one salvation, and one Church. Anyone who has placed their faith in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins belongs to God's family and His Church. The Universal Church is made up of many "local churches" and includes many different faiths and denominations. We recognize all persons who are trusting in Jesus Christ for salvation. Because of this trust, you are our spiritual brothers and sisters, and therefore, united with us. It does not matter what local church you attend.
