Taking Jesus to the Hood
Taking Jesus to the Hood

Throughout our history, Great Commission Church

of God has obediently responded to God’s leading.

In this present season of ministry, we are again poised

to respond to His voice, as we begin a new building

fund campaign. We believe that God is opening the

necessary doors to accomplish this effort.  With the

success of this building fund campaign and ultimately the construction of our new sanctuary project, the

body of Christ will be strengthened, our community will be more effectively reached in the name of Jesus

Christ, and the Kingdom of God will be increased for His glory.

It takes more than just buildings to make a church – it takes people who have fellowship with one another

and, more importantly, with God. Buildings, however, do serve to give us consistency and stability in our

ministry efforts. With the new sanctuary, we will be able to more adequately minister to our community both

now and in the generations to come.

Why now? This is the question you may ask.  While we have not outgrown our current church and it is still

well maintained, it is no longer meets our ministry needs. Last year, Young Men, Inc. Youth Ministry served

more than 100 young men in the fellowship hall, but we continue to struggle with adequate space to

accomplish all the needs of the participants, staff, and program storage.  Also, our church has grown beyond

the capacity that the fellowship hall can be used for.  In 2015 we hosted our second Making Better Choices

Conference for the community and we continue to struggle with adequate breakout space and the logistics,

along with layout challenges of rooms.  This made it difficult again to conduct a quality conference. Since it our

desire to get more involved in similar community efforts, a new facility would better meets these needs.

Therefore, a committee has been formed and we are currently in the process of choosing a

consultant, and fundraising and giving campaigns are well underway. All these things are being done

so that we can count the cost and eventually meet the budget it will take to complete the new

building which we hope to include:  200 - 300 seat sanctuary, multiple conference rooms/classrooms,

pastoral offices, administrative offices, computer lab, gymatorium, and a special area for our

youth ministry to meet in. We pray that you will be every one of you will be supportive of this effort and that you would be consistent in your tithing and giving, and perhaps even increase as the Lord gives

you favor and increase.

Continue to pray that God blesses this effort and that His guidance accompanies us every

step of the way.  Luke 24:27-29 says "Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. What is the

first thing you will do? Won’t you sit down and figure out how much it will cost and if you

have enough money to pay for it? Otherwise, you will start building the tower, but not be

able to finish. Then everyone who sees what is happening will laugh at you."

  • The Step It Up Campaign raised of $1,700+
  • Our monthly goal of $500 toward the building fund has exceeded each month as of March, 2017
  • In December, 2017, we received a matching grant from Center for Congregations to complete Phase 2 of our project. In 2018, we were blessed to raise more than $30,000.00 to secure the drawings and first model of the new facility.
